Are you going to sell me projects I don’t need?
Absolutely not! Since we are part of the NIST MEP program, our success is based on the impact that we create for our customers, not how much money we make. For example: we would rather complete a project that will cost you $5,000 and creates $100,000 per year impact than a $75,000 project that only creates $20,000 worth of impact. We believe in building relationships with our customers, not selling you projects that you don’t need.
How does NIST MEP know about the impact created at my company?
Approximately 6 months after project completion, you will receive a third-party survey where you will be asked questions based on different metrics of cost savings, new/retained sales, new/retained jobs, etc.
So how is TMAC associated with NIST?
In the 1980’s NIST, which is under the Department of Commerce, created the MEP program, also known as the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership. While there are MEP centers across the United States, TMAC has been serving manufacturers in the state of Texas since 1995.
What does it mean that TMAC has host institutions?
Many of the MEPs across the United States, including TMAC have host institutions that house our offices and employees. TMAC’s host institutions include: Lamar University, Southwest Research Institute (SWRI), Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), Texas Tech University, The University of Texas at Arlington, The University of Texas at El Paso, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and University of Houston-Clear Lake.
Since you are connected with Texas universities, are you professors?
We are not professors of these universities. Our trained experts – many of which are engineers – have years of experience within a variety of manufacturing industries. We focus on manufacturing best practices. While each field staff / advisor has specific expertise, our team works together to bring you real results
Will I only work with one TMAC advisor?
In some cases, yes. It really depends on what types of issues your organization faces along with the plan of action to improve and develop your profit, products, processes, technologies and/or people. If you have multiple projects you hire TMAC to work with you on, you may wind up with two or more TMAC advisors who work with you.
How often will a TMAC advisor come to my facility during a project?
It really depends on the type of work required. Some projects may consist of a few hours or a few days, while other projects may require a TMAC advisor to come work on a project a few times a week for many months.
Does TMAC offer training for my employees?
TMAC does offer training to manufacturers. We have an extensive Lean Six Sigma training which can include Yellow Belt, Green Belt, Black Belt and even Master Black Belt courses. We also have training for internal audits, supply chain and many other topics. Typically, you send one or more of your employees to one of our courses or workshops. However, we do offer dedicated classes depending on your needs.
How much do you charge, and can I afford TMAC services?
Please speak with your TMAC advisor to discuss fees and payment plans in more detail. We often offer discounts for our workshops and Lean Six Sigma courses when you send more than one employee. Our rate is less than the big consulting firms due to the funding that we receive from NIST MEP.

MARK SESSUMES GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP
Mark A. Sessumes, executive director for TMAC, passed away in August 2021 after 26 years of service with UT Arlington and TMAC. Mark joined TMAC one year after its inception and was a valuable team member, co-worker, supervisor, and friend. He advocated for manufacturing in Texas and throughout the United States. He was passionate about TMAC’s mission of developing and improving products, processes, people, and technologies.
Mark served as one of the original manufacturing field specialists within TMAC. He worked diligently to keep Texas manufacturers competitive and profitable. Mark was named the TMAC metroplex regional director in 2012 and served in that capacity for six years. He was then promoted to TMAC state executive director in 2018 and served in this capacity until August 2021.
Mark’s 26 years of advocacy and executive leadership not only benefited Texas; he also developed strong networks throughout the United States. He served on the National Board of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership and the Board of the American Small Manufacturing Coalition, among others.
During Mark’s tenure as executive director, TMAC customers reported and verified more than $1.8 billion in new and retained sales, more than $620 million in new investment, more than $437 million in cost savings, and more than 15,000 new and retained jobs. Additionally, this UT Arlington-affiliated program served 1,452 customers.
This hybrid public/private partnership is a unique win-win for industry, the TMAC program, UT Arlington, and the state of Texas.
The purpose of the Mark Sessumes Graduate Fellowship is to provide financial assistance to UT Arlington graduate students interested in improving, studying, or developing the U.S. manufacturing enterprise. This includes reshoring or bolstering U.S. supply chains, operational efficiency (financial, administrative, or technical production lines), review and study of new technologies, or improving people, process, and products of manufacturing. Students awarded funds from this scholarship will also be given an opportunity to possibly work as a paid intern at TMAC during their final year of graduate school. During the internship, students gain valuable hands-on experience working with TMAC field specialists on various customer projects related to their field of study.
APPROVED TXDOT MANUFACTURING COMPANY RELOCATION CONTRACTOR
TMAC is the only approved manufacturing company relocation contractor by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to assist manufacturers with eminent domain.
The State of Texas is widening many highways throughout the state to support the required infrastructure growth. Since many manufacturing firms are located near or along highways that are being widened there is a requirement for them to be relocated. This process is a result of eminent domain. Eminent domain issues are handled through TxDOT.
Services for the relocations are funded by TxDOT through the affected manufacturer. The manufacturer or facility owner will contract with TxDOT for TMAC assistance. TMAC works closely with the manufacturer to help determine the upfront expenses associated with the move. TMAC staff are experienced manufacturing facility designers and relocation experts.
The assistance manufacturers may require are:
Budgeting relocation expenses with TxDOT and the manufacturer/contractors.
Capturing current business layout, facility and equipment requirements.
Assist the manufacturers with finding a new manufacturing location.
Be the manufacturer’s project manager for the physical move.
Design the layout of the new facility for the manufacturer.
